Sabra is not just an organization you read about. Sabra is something you step into.
It is a living bridge — between people and people, faith and action, prayer and responsibility.
Born out of prayer, rooted in Jewish history, and expressed through daily acts of compassion, Sabra exists because ordinary people choose to respond to God’s call with open hearts and willing hands.
Founded in 2001 by Mordechai ben Ya’akov, Sabra works among Jewish communities in Russia — including Siberia and the Russian Far East — while carrying out wide, consistent, and deeply meaningful work throughout Israel.
Across the country, Sabra is present where help is needed most: supporting the elderly, strengthening families, standing with vulnerable communities, and building bridges of hope, dignity, and mercy — from the periphery to the heart of the land.
Nothing at Sabra is abstract. Every project, every visit, every act of giving is personal.
Everything Sabra does is made possible through God’s grace and through devoted staff members and volunteers who give more than time and resources — they give themselves.
They carry God’s love for people in their hearts, and that love compels them to serve.
Over the years, Sabra has known both joy and challenge.
In seasons of blessing, we rejoice together.
In times of difficulty, we stand as one family — faithful, resilient, and united.
We believe this work is part of a greater divine plan, and we seek to walk before God with humility, integrity, and compassion.
Mordechai ben Ya’akov was born in Israel in 1950 and raised in an Orthodox Jewish family by Holocaust-survivor grandparents — one from Auschwitz and one from Bergen-Belsen.
After more than twenty years of service in the Israel Defense Forces and years of educational leadership, he was asked by the Jewish Agency (Sochnut) to lead its branch in Eastern Russia.
In 1995, he arrived in Russia with only four words of Russian and no clear understanding of what lay ahead.
After his first year, he planned to return home.
But through prayer and deep study of the Scriptures, God placed a clear vision in his heart — and everything changed.
What began as uncertainty became a calling.
That calling became Sabra.
Sabra was founded on a clear and enduring vision:
To build a bridge between believers and the Jewish people — a bridge grounded in prayer, love, and compassion.
“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3)
To support Aliyah — the return of the Jewish people to the Promised Land.
“He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel.” (Isaiah 11:12)
To restore spiritual roots and identity, reconnecting the Jewish people with their heritage and promises.
To practice mercy in action, providing humanitarian aid to the elderly, the disabled, and families in need.
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due.” (Proverbs 3:27)
To care for children and orphans, supporting foster families and children’s homes with dignity and love.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord.” (Psalm 127:3)
Sabra continues to build a bridge — not as an idea, but as a daily reality.
A bridge of prayer.
A bridge of love.
A bridge of mercy.
You are warmly invited to become part of this journey.
Stand with us.
Pray with us.
Support our work.
Help turn faith into action.
With love and blessings,
Mordechai ben Ya’akov
